“Fall” into the Season

It looks like fall , air is crisp, sky is blue. and the kids are back to school. The house is now a lot quieter than when the heat was rising and thoughts of long walks on the beach clouded your mind.

Take a walk around the house, you will begin to notice different things that you would like to change. Maybe it’s the table cloth that is bright and vibrant or the towels in the bathroom or the sea-shell shower curtains. You realize that it is definitely time to pack up everything that screams “summer” and “fall” into the new season.

Not sure how to start with your fall decor? So much to do? Guess what you have plenty of time to do it!

Graduation Woos

As we look at our little babies when they come into this world, we know one day they will leave us to start their life.

We teach them how to feed themselves and walk on their own. Before we know if they are able to stand on their own two feet.

There are a series of graduations over the years; first preschool, then kindergarten, high school and then the finale; college.

As I approach the graduation journey, I watch three of my cousin’s children branch off into the world after they accept their high school diploma.

My middle child, the second baby girl is not to far long from that finish line as she enters junior year after summer vacation.

So my hat goes off to all of the mother’s out there celebrating their children’s graduations, whether they are 5 or 18, they are embarking on a new chapter of their lives, where you are left to turn the pages.

Congrats to the Class of ’11

School’s Out=Summer Time Mayhem

What’s the lesson plan ?

School is almost out. I’m already a stay-at-home mom! Now I have to entertain the kids for the summer?!

I am now the lunch lady; planning daily lunches , the gym teacher; to keep them active and the social studies teacher to keep up with their social life and history.

To the working  parents my heart goes out to you, when there are no choices for you but a series of summer camps.

But for us stay-at-home moms?! We need a summer kit …you know things for kids to do while out of school…just like they do for the beginning of school year.

It’s Friday

I’ve always wonder why people look forward to the weekend, most people say thats their off day if you work Monday through Friday.

But what about me and other stay at home moms?! What day do we look forward to? The weekend is the hardest for me!

Take this weekend for example: my son has a basketball tournament, daughter has dance competition, and I committed myself to attend my great niece’s dance recital!

To top it off the husband is off this weekend! Soo… it begins, what’s for breakfast, lunch and dinner? where’s my uniform, my dance shoes?

I think my favorite day is Monday morning!!!!!!!

Caffeine: GOOD OR BAD?

I was watching the news and the topic of the day was: Is caffeine intake skyrocketing for kids? I had to actually think about it myself, maybe you should too…

Take a minute and ask yourself these following questions:
Did you know some sweets and even over the counter medications have caffeine. What’s your favorite drink? Do you know what’s even in it? Do you know if your kids are drinking a caffeine drink?

You may want to look closer at just how much caffeine you get in a typical day. Especially if you’re bothered by headaches, restlessness or anxiety. If your caffeine habits total more than 500-600 milligrams a day , you may want to consider cutting back.
The caffeine content of some coffee drinks can vary from day to day even at the same coffee shop because of factors like roasting and grinding as well as brewing time. The caffeine in tea also is affected by how long it takes to brew.

It’s funny how my 16 year old daughter now asks for a Starbucks gift card just so she can get her favorite drink, my son loves iced cappucinos from Tim Horton’s and even my husband has to have the right coffee flavor or he won’t drink it!
And now people are meeting up for Starbucks happy hour, which has no age requirement . I must say I enjoy a cup of coffee every now and then…haven’t decided if it was good or bad! I simply have no words… 🙂

Sitting is Actually Killing You?!

Is is possible that sitting at a desk all day is actually killing you? Does that mean that moms that are consumed with constantly running all day doing errands and old jobs are a little bit healthier than moms working a 9-5 in an office?!

According to Mashable.com and Medical Billing and Coding

Sitting down, which most of us do for at least eight hours each day, might be the worst thing we do for our health all day.

We’ve been preaching the benefits of stand-up desks for a while around here — and no one needs this good news more than social media-obsessed web geeks. A recent medical journal study showed that people who sit for most of their day are 54% more likely to die of a heart attack.

And our readers are receptive to the idea, too. In fact, in a recent poll, three-fourths of you said you already used a stand-up desk or you’d like to try one.

So if you need more convincing, check out these graphically organized stats from Medical Billing and Coding. We like it for the information it contains, but we love it for the Saul Bass, Vertigo-esque graphics.
